HAMMERKLAVIER.

A world premiere of Hammerklavier, a multi-media ballet set to Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 29 in B flat major, Op. 106, widely considered to be one of the most important works of the composer's third period. The sonata, written in 1817-18, represents the spectacular emergence of many of the themes that were to recur in Beethoven's late period: the reinvention of traditional forms, and a return to pre-classical compositional traditions.

MAGICAL SCORES.

Completing the program: Rogers' acclaimed Transcription, set to Busoni’s piano transcription of Bach’s Chaconne in D minor; Ostinato In C set to Sergey Taneyev’s Piano Quintet, and Dankgesang set to Beethoven’s third movement from Quartet in A minor.

BOISTEROUSLY SERENE.

Founded in 1985, David Dorfman Dance has been revolutionizing the American dance aesthetic while challenging boundaries ever since.

PROGRESSIVE.

David Dorfman Dance presents underground- a multi-media riot of the senses exploring the boundaries between activism and terrorism. Inspired by the militant Weathermen, a 1960s/1970s offshoot of Students for a Democratic Society, underground explores the inside world of political activism and poses large questions to present-day protesters, activists, war resisters and ordinary citizens. Does what you do make a difference? In a violent world, can you fight for peace?

THE MUSIC MAN.

Duke Ellington described his work simply as "American music" and enjoyed the dynamic of introducing seemingly ambiguous roots together to form a style that is distinctly Ellington. He enjoyed the vast majority of his works becoming instant sensations in the jazz world, and also across boundaries within pop music. His impact on the music world in general is as profound today as it was 50 years ago. The winner of 13 Grammy awards, 4 were awarded posthumously. Duke Ellington lived and breathed music- his famous last public words were, "music is how I live, why I live and how I will be remembered." The Luckman Jazz Orchestra rekindles the buzzing flame that Ellington ignited with a program of his biggest hits, and a few less known treasures.

QUÉBECOIS WITH CALI ROOTS.

Under the direction of distinguished dancer and choreographer Victor Quijada, Rubberbandance has soared to extraordinary levels. The Los Angeles native formulates a refined repertoire that amalgamates his early roots with his transplanted foundation.

Undeniably one of the most important jazz vocalists in history, Dianne Reeves' impact on the art form is deeply rooted. Respected universally as a phenomenal musician with a creative and innovative arsenal in her pocket, Ms. Reeves receives applause and admiration without ever having to ask.

FIERCELY IN CONTROL.

Her incredible artistic range is well-known throughout the world. The Seattle Times wrote that "her three-plus, pellucid octaves, diva-like delivery and intimate sense of a song have long made her one of the most compelling vocalists in jazz," and the People Magazine noted that "she roams and explores, growls and catches at notes and phrasings. It is this audacity that makes Reeves’ voice an awesome instrument."
