Buika

Hailing from Spain’s Balearic Islands, Buika’s voice knows no boundaries when it comes to language or geography. She has collaborated with musicians and singers in languages beyond her native Spanish and Catalan, and has recorded tracks in English, French, Portuguese, Farsi, Italian, and Armenian.

Buika graces the Luckman stage with her intense blend of musical styles that draw from the rich and eclectic sounds of flamenco infused with jazz, Latin jazz, Afro-beat, funk, soul, reggae, and pop.

Ranking Buika in a list of the world’s fifty best singers, NPR once called her “the voice of freedom,” a remarkable epithet that recognizes her rich heritage, her electrifying presence, and her ability to draw new and unexpected ideas from her enormous musical vocabulary.
